Due to the "trick" I use I really do not want to update to Big Sur or Monterey, afraid this trick won't work anymore. Note that this version was originally installed under Mojave (with 32-bit application support) and then the OS was updated to Catalina, Big Sur, and finally Monterey. ![]() When I got the Macbook, it ran MacOS Catalina. I have been using it for some years now and although it only runs with the charger connected, I got it for free and have been happily using Lightroom and Photoshop on it. The "dead" battery causes CPU throttling which would render the MacBook unusable, but I can disable the throttling by a neat trick: boot the Macbook, wait for it to show the desktop, close the lid, count to 25 and open the lid again. He dropped a cup of thee on it and that probably damaged the charging circuit as the battery was no longer charged and is "dead" now. Long introduction to prevent wrong answers: I have been using my son's old MacBook Pro 13 inch retina from early 2015 for some years now.
